Marine Electronics Engineer, Senior (System Architecture)
Typical Responsibilities:
- Conduct design of electric and electronic systems, study power generation and distribution, centralized machinery monitoring and control.
- Applying knowledge of and experience with engineering principles and techniques, to develop and evaluate moderately complex technical reports related to application of C5I systems onboard USCG ships.
- Reviewing and evaluating the effect of new and/or modified electronics on overall system performance.
- Review and adjudicate system design specifications, test requirements, Departures from Specification (DFS’s), Request for Waiver (RFW), Engineering Changes (EC’s).
Travel: Up to 10% travel to CONUS locations is anticipated for ship checks.
Typical Physical Activity: Primarily desk/computer work in an office environment. May involve: repetitive motion. Periodic visits to waterfront/shipboard environments. May involve: traversing shipboard environments (e.g., confined spaces, ladders, hatches) or vision.
Typical Pay Range: The anticipated pay range for this position in the identified location(s) is $110,000 – 140,000. Actual compensation offered will be based upon individual factors including education, qualifications, and experience.
US Citizenship Required: Due to the requirements of the federal contract that this position supports, existing U.S. citizenship is required. Citizenship will be confirmed via I-9/E-Verify at the start of employment. Applicants who do not currently possess U.S Citizenship will not be considered.
Security Clearance Eligibility Required: This position requires eligibility for a DoD Secret security clearance. A qualified candidate must either already possess an active or interim Secret security clearance (preferred); OR be eligible for a Secret security clearance upon hire. Applicants who cannot affirm eligibility for a security clearance will not be considered.
Typical Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Bachelor’s degree in System Architecture, Electronics, Marine Engineering, or another relevant technical, engineering, or a marine discipline from an ABET-accredited institution.
- Master’s degree preferred.
- At least six (6) years of recent, relevant professional experience developing system architecture using DoD Architecture Framework (DoDAF).
- Experience with IBM Rational System Architect.
- At least one (1) year of experience related to federal ship or boat building acquisition programs required.
- Prior experience with DoD ACAT I or DHS Level I shipbuilding programs preferred.
- Previous experience with shipboard and defense C5I systems preferred.
- Meets DoD IAT Level II Baseline Certification requirements. This can be met by holding any ONE active certification from the following list:
- CCNA Security
- CySA+
- GICSP
- GSEC
- Security+ CE
- SSCP
- CASP CE
- CCNP Security
- CISA
- CISSP (or Associate)
- GCED
- GCIH
- Familiarity with USN, USCG, ABS and/or commercial ship design rules and regulations.
- Additional certifications, such as PE License, PMP, DHS Systems Engineering Certification, or DHS Program Management Certifications, preferred.
- Proficient with common productivity software.
- Strong communication skills.
