THOR Solutions is seeking a
mid-level Drafter/Designer to support the United States Coast Guard C5ISC in
Portsmouth, VA. The drafter will support the Sensors and Electronics Branch by creating and updating USCG drawings for system installations and modifications.
Typical Responsibilities:- Use CAD software to generate detailed engineering drawings necessary to support engineering studies and reports.
- Prepare complete sets of complex drawings or computer models that include multiple views, detail drawings, and assembly drawings, including complex design features that require considerable drafting skill to visualize and portray.
- Use mathematical formulas to compute weights, center of gravity, load capacities, dimensions, quantities of material, etc.
- Working from sketches, computer models, and verbal information supplied by an engineer, architect, or designer to determine the most appropriate views, detail drawings, and supplementary information needed to complete assignments.
- Select required information from computer programs, internet sites, precedents, manufacturers' catalogs, and technical guides.
- Independently resolves most of the problems encountered.
Location: Full time onsite in Portsmouth, VA. Some limited "local remote" flexibility may be permitted.
Typical Physical Activity: Primarily desk/computer work in an office environment. May involve: repetitive motion. Periodic visits to waterfront/shipboard environments. May involve: traversing shipboard environments (e.g., confined spaces, ladders, hatches) or vision.
US Citizenship Required: Due to the requirements of the federal contract that this position supports, U.S. citizenship is required. Citizenship will be confirmed via I-9/E-Verify at the start of employment.
Security Clearance Required: This position requires a DoD Secret security clearance. A qualified candidate must already possess an active or interim Secret security clearance.
Typical Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: - One of the following combinations:
- Technical diploma/certificate in Drafting from an accredited school plus four (4) years of professional drafting experience;
- OR a high school diploma/GED equivalent plus six (6) years of professional drafting experience.
- Recent, relevant professional experience using CAD software to generate detailed engineering drawings.
- Preferred experience with AutoCAD.
- Experience obtained in a US Navy, Coast Guard, or DOD environment is highly preferred.
- Proficient with common productivity software.
- Strong communications skills.
